Dunrobin Swim School - General Skills List
This is a list of skills we would work on depending on your swimmer’s skill level. This is not a fixed list.
Skill focuses can vary depending on the swimmer’s strengths and weaknesses (for instance, they have a strong front crawl and are able to swim multiple lengths in the deep end [an ‘advanced’ skill], but they may struggle on their back glides [a ‘beginner’ skill]).
Beginner Skills (unable to touch bottom)
- Face in water
- Assisted glide with board and independent pushoff
- Assisted glide with independent pushoff and kicks
- Back float
- Assisted back glide
- Assisted back glide with kicks
- Scoop hands with kicks
Beginner Skills (able to touch bottom)
- Face in water
- Front glide with board
- Kicks with board
- Back float
- Back glide
- Back glide with kicks
- Scoop hands with kicks
Intermediate Skills
- Kicks with board
- Kicks without board
- Front crawl 5m
- Front crawl 5m with side breathing
- Kicking on back with board
- Kicking on back without board
- Back crawl arms with board
- Back crawl 5m
- 10m deep end swim without stopping
- Whip kick with board
Advanced Skills
- Kicks without board
- Front crawl 10m (deep end) with side breathing (increasing distance requirement as needed)
- Back crawl 10m (deep end) (increasing distance requirement as needed)
- Whip kick with board
- Whip kick without board
- Dolphin kick on front
- Dolphin kick on back
- Kneeling dive into deep end
- Standing dive into deep end
